Charlotte Dawe & Angus Cowen, founders of Sea Sisters, will be the second business to pitch in Dragons’ Den tonight.

The couple’s artisanal canned fish is proudly produced from British seafood and packed here too.

It all began when the COVID pandemic hit in March 2020.

“Our jobs in the hospitality industry shut down overnight,” they wrote on their website. “Finding ourselves at home for long periods with our two young daughters, we created our own fortnightly shopping ritual, buying all our favourite store cupboard goods that we could make nutritious family meals from; most notably the canned fish we all loved to eat.

“But as much as we loved it, we also knew that none of this fish was canned in England or used any of the delicious British fish we knew was so readily available.”

Sea Sisters, named after their two little girls, was born. “Together we learned a craft from scratch, testing, experimenting and researching from our tiny kitchen in Hackney. We launched our range from a micro-cannery in Hackney where we proved the concept could work.

“After lockdown we moved to Bridport in West Dorset, where we opened our craft cannery with the values of sustainability, flavour and championing the British fishing industry at the heart of our mission. Our first conservas, Cornish Pollack with Garlic and Bay, Mussels in Cider Vinegar and Mussels with Nduja were launched in 2021.”

The Dorset-based business’s range includes smoked rainbow trout, Cornish sardines and pollack, and Norfolk whelks.

Will they hook a Dragon – or several – with their pitch?

Episode 11 of series 23 sees the return of guest judge Jenna Meek alongside regular Dragons Peter Jones, Touker Suleyman, Deborah Meaden and Steven Bartlett.

The other businesses pitching in the Den tonight are Fingagolf, Yes Friends and ReVibed Drinks.
