Leading video games label and developer Team17 has appointed Martin Hellawell as a non-executive director.

The Nottingham-based public firm said Hellawell’s appointment will bring a wealth of experience across the capital markets arena, with particular focus on both technology and high growth businesses.

The firm’s portfolio comprises over 100 games, including The Escapists, Overcooked, and most famously the ‘Worms’ franchise.

Currently Chairman IT infrastructure provider Softcat, he joined the firm in 2006 as MD.

During his tenure, Hellawell guided Softcat through a significant period of growth, culminating in its successful IPO in 2015.

Prior to Softcat, Hellawell worked at Computacenter, where he was part of the team that oversaw Computacenter’s IPO in 1998. Martin was recently named chairman of DIY computer firm Raspberry Pi Trading.

Hellawell will sit on the group’s audit, remuneration and nomination committees.

“I am delighted to welcome Martin to Team17,” said Chris Bell, non-executive chairman of Team17.

“Martin brings a wealth of PLC experience that complements our ambitious growth aspirations and is also extremely well-versed in technology and digital markets.”

Hellawell said he was joining Team17 at an important stage of its development.

“I have been following the Company for some time and can’t wait to take up my position on the board. I thoroughly look forward to working with my new colleagues at Team17.”
