Manchester-based HealthTech Evergreen Life will support creation of an AI hub to deliver next-generation innovations and technologies.

The ‘Causality in Healthcare AI’ (CHAI) Hub is one of nine hubs awarded a total of £80m by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), to enable AI to evolve and tackle complex problems across applications from healthcare treatments to power-efficient electronics.

Set up with University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh, University College London, King’s College London, University of Exeter and Imperial College London, the hub aims to cement the UK’s international standing as a world leader in the development and use of AI.

Evergreen Life – which uses advanced technology to empower people to improve their health and lifestyle by connecting them with more effective, joined-up care – will work alongside academia, industry, healthcare professionals and policy makers to co-create new health AI solutions.

Dr James Harmsworth King, chief medical officer and managing director of research at Evergreen Life, said: “Delivering causal AI will help us achieve the accuracy and explainability required to fundamentally transform healthcare.

“Evergreen Life is delighted to be working with the UK’s leading universities at the CHAI hub to develop and deploy this next generation of AI focused on improving health outcomes.”

The support Evergreen Life will offer to the CHAI Hub includes access to its research platform, knowledge exchange and problem-solving support, facilitation of industry placements, plus pilot study collaboration.

The business which employs around 540 people, provides software for over 200 GP practices, supports 20 NHS Trusts, provides personal health records, DNA genetic testing and offers health and wellness advice to over a million people through its app.

Founded in 2014 and based in Salford with offices in Gateshead and London, Evergreen Life enables people to curate their own personal health record and share this information currently held by different health organisations through a digital app-based solution.

Together this information gives people a far greater understanding of how diet, lifestyle, genetics and medical history can impact on their health and wellbeing – enabling people to make more informed personalised choices about how they live their lives, improve their health and reduce demand on services.

Evergreen Life’s transformative tech and AI solutions for NHS organisations and patients deliver more efficient care and improved outcomes across primary and secondary care, and clinical and research services.
