Social enterprise Beam, the world’s first crowdfunding platform for homeless people, has hired Monzo’s director of product Flora Devlin.

Devlin led product teams at Monzo for two years, where she was responsible for developing the product management discipline and shipping product to Monzo’s 4m+ customers.

She also acted as interim chief product officer in summer 2020.

Prior to Monzo, she worked in the data and product teams at leading tech companies Intercom and Hootsuite.

Devlin will join Beam as its first head of product this month and will work closely with the startup’s head of engineering, Julian Keenaghan, and report into founder and CEO Alex Stephany.

She has joined for an initial period of six months and will lead on product design and execution, in addition to advising on longer-term product strategy for Beam’s multiple stakeholders.

The firm’s business model brings together local authorities, homeless charities, training providers, employers, members of the public and Beam’s dedicated team of caseworkers to help tackle homelessness.

“I’m incredibly excited to take up this role at Beam. I believe that everyone deserves access to opportunities in life and Beam’s mission is directly focused on addressing this,” said Devlin.

For me this role is the perfect blend of a startup building innovative product, a world class team and solving an issue I feel passionately about.”

Stephany added: “At Beam we believe everyone deserves access to world class tech – not just those wealthy enough to afford Deliveroo, Spotify or an Airbnb holiday.

We’re delighted to welcome Flora, a product leader from one of the UK’s most admired unicorns, to build products that will empower and delight some of the most disadvantaged people in the UK.”
