A campaign to raise £500,000 in memory of Abi Godfrey, a director in Grant Thornton’s North West corporate finance business who died at the age of 34, has topped £100,000.
A total of 853 supporters have so far pledged £114,435, which will be used to support her baby son, Leo, and her family.
Abi died in February, just two weeks after giving birth to her first child, Leo.
The fundraising campaign received a boost when colleagues from Grant Thornton joined Abi’s friends and family on May 28 to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in her memory.
Peter Terry, a partner at Grant Thornton UK and its North West practice lead, was among more than 100 people who completed the challenge.

Speaking at the time of Abi’s death, he said: “As a young female leader just breaking through to partner at Grant Thornton, she was an inspiration and motivation to many, both inside and outside the firm.
“She had so many wonderful qualities – we will miss her energy, fun, kindness and humility. We hold her family, friends and colleagues in our thoughts at this most difficult of times.”
Abi, who led the firm’s national pharma and life sciences sector, joined Grant Thornton in 2024 after 11 years at Deloitte.
She attended Westholme School, where her former teacher Debbie Northin remembered her as ‘a particularly talented and sunny-natured girl’ and a ‘bundle of energy and fun’.
