A new augmented reality app will see German football club Schalke engage with their worldwide fanbase.
Berlin-based start-up Forward Gaming has developed Schalke Quest, available for both iOS and Android devices, which allows fans around the world to test their knowledge of the Bundesliga outfit.
They will compete with each other to unlock club-related rewards and prizes including rare trading cards which they can then exchange with other fans.
Schalke, who are active in the eSports scene, said the app is a “great offer for our fans”.
“Consumer behaviour in our digital society is changing,” said marketing director Alexander Jobst. “To reflect this, together with Forward Gaming we have developed a great offer for our fans.
“Schalke Quest is an excellent example of how tradition and innovation are strongest when they complement each other.”
Schalke were humiliated 10-2 on aggregate by English champions Manchester City in the Champions League recently and were knocked out of the competition.
