Atom Bank is the challenger bank that is designed for digital. It was founded by Anthony Thomson and Mark Mullen in April 2014 with just six staff and established its headquarters and development teams in Northumbria House in Durham. The company has since relocated to Newcastle. Thomson stepped down as chairman in 2018 while Mullen remains as CEO.
