Concrete4Change (C4C) is a pioneering deep tech company based in the UK, on a mission to transform concrete into a scalable carbon sink. Founded in 2021, C4C has developed a breakthrough technology that transforms waste streams and CO2 into materials that permanently sequester CO2 in concrete — turning the world’s most widely used construction material into a tool for fighting climate change.
Why Concrete?
Concrete is the second most consumed substance on Earth after water. Yet, the cement used to make concrete is responsible for nearly 8% of global CO₂ emissions, making it one of the largest single contributors to climate change. As the world rapidly urbanises and modernises infrastructure, the demand for concrete continues to rise. C4C recognises that decarbonising concrete is critical to achieving global net-zero targets—and its technology offers a practical, drop in solution that reduces cost and emissions for manufacturers.
What C4C Is Doing
Concrete4Change has developed a patentted technology that enables the sequestration of CO₂ into concrete using a proprietary carrier material. This carrier is formed from calcium based waste and CO₂ from flue gas, creating a solid material that mixes into concrete like any other material. In doing so, it not only locks away carbon permanently but also enhances the strength of the concrete—allowing manufacturers to reduce cement content by up to 20%, further lowering emissions.
The process is drop-in ready—meaning it can be integrated into existing concrete production lines with minimal disruption. This is critical for adoption across an industry that traditionally resists change due to cost, complexity, and risk.
Collaborations and Partnerships
To validate and commercialise its innovation, Concrete4Change is actively collaborating with major industry players, strategic investors, and research institutions, including:
• Goldbeck: A leading European construction and engineering firm, working with C4C both as a strategic partner and investor to implement the technology in precast concrete products.
• Siam Cement Group (SCG): One of Asia’s largest cement and building material producers, partnering with C4C to integrate its technology in Southeast Asia and support global scalability. SCG is also a strategic investor in the company.
• Cemex: One of the world’s leading cement and concrete producers, partnering with C4C on pilot implementation and scale-up of the C4C technology
• Support from UKRI and other public and private backers, with over £4.5 million raised in a combination of grants and venture funding to date.
The Vision
Concrete4Change’s ultimate vision is to enable gigatonne-scale CO₂ removal by turning every concrete structure into a net-negative store for CO2. By creating a circular, value-generating solution that benefits both the planet and producers, C4C is setting a new standard for sustainable construction and demonstrating that climate action can be compatible with commercial success.
