Manchester City has bolstered its esports team with the signing of reigning world champion Kai ‘Deto’ Wollin.

Following in the footsteps of Marcus ‘ExpectSporting’ Jorgensen, Deto is City’s second esports addition this season and will represent the club in PlayStation 4 FIFA tournaments around the world.

As the current FIWC Playstation World Champion, the 29-year-old boasts a stellar reputation within the esports world and since his debut at the FIFA Championship in 2006 has collected multiple German Championships alongside World Cyber Games titles in 2011 and 2012.

“I am incredibly proud to be a part of this amazing club,” he said. “I’m extremely happy to be stepping into the next chapter of my esports career with Manchester City and at such an exciting time for esports.

“I’m looking forward to getting started in the FUT Champions Cup next month and getting to know the Manchester City fans all over the world.”

Deto will represent City for the first time at the FUT Champions Cup in April and his arrival takes the number of esports players signed to City Football Group clubs to four, with Chris Holly and Marcus Gomes representing New York City and Melbourne respectively.

Nuria Tarre, chief marketing officer for City Football Group, added: “We’re delighted to be able to bring one of FIFA’s most decorated and experienced players on board.

“We’re looking forward to seeing Deto in Manchester City colours in tournaments and fan events around the world. He has already demonstrated that he can compete amongst the best players, so we can’t wait to see how he progresses.

“The growth in esports over the past two years has been substantial and our growing presence in this industry has provided another way for us to connect with our global fan base, particularly our younger audience, and bring them closer to the club they love.”

Dedicated Xbox player Kieran ‘Kez’ Brown has left Man City after two years to pursue other opportunities within the professional gaming industry.
