The great and the good of technology spoke of their ‘honour and privilege’ to emerge triumphant at BusinessCloud’s inaugural UK Business Tech Awards.
It was an unforgettable night as the country’s best tech companies walked away with the spoils on Tuesday evening.
A total of 18 winners were recognised at a packed ceremony in London’s exclusive Montcalm Marble Arch Hotel for the way they’ve used technology.
Among them was Pankaj Chandak, transplant registrar at Guy’s, Evelina, Great Ormond Street Hospitals & King’s College London, who had the audience’s rapt attention as he explained on stage how the 3D-printing project he leads assists around 300 adult and 40 children renal transplants a year.
“It’s a privilege and a real honour to be here with such strong companies and competitors and to be recognised for this,” he told BusinessCloud after picking up the award for Healthtech Pioneer of the Year.
“We won it because we developed a pre-operative method of 3D-printing of an adult human kidney in a baby’s abdomen to plan difficult transplantation in children. It’s a novel technology we’re using for operative planning in difficult cases, which is what the award recognises.
“It’s a mark for the whole team. There are a lot of people who work very hard to try and give these children a good quality of life and get them through the transplant.
“We’d like to dedicate this award to the children, past present and future – those who we’ve transplanted and those we are going to transplant.
“If it wasn’t for them inspiring us, we wouldn’t be here.”

Josephine Groom, CRM director at Invstr, spoke of her delight after the London firm – which has customers in 190 countries – picked up the FinTech Innovator of the Year gong.
“Winning the award means we’re recognised for our efforts – it’s a great honour. We’re chuffed!” she said.
“These awards are always very important to start-ups. They help us get our name out there and understand in a competitive landscape if we’re doing the right thing versus everyone else.”
