CDNify acquired by company behind SSL.com

CDNify, the static hosting and content delivery network launched by Manchester-based serial entrepreneur James Mulvany, has been acquired by SSL Corp.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, SSL Corp is best known as the people behind SSL.com, the SSL digital certificate authority.

Launched in 2013, CDNify initially saw growth by focussing on the SMB and start-up market, signing up customers such as Frank & Oak, the Canadian fashion retailer.

The company was also one of the first CDN providers to provide its users with free SSL certificates.

“SSL.com (SSL Corp) is excited to offer CDN services to existing SSL.com customers while at the same time expanding and improving CDN services on the CDNify.com platform,” said Leo Grove, CEO and founder of SSL.com.

“Existing customers should see more CDN nodes appearing worldwide in the coming weeks and months and also more product offerings aligned with their needs.”

He added that CDNify customers should expect the two entities to continue to operate separately until a tighter integration is completed between SSL.com and CDNify.com.

“More developments will be announced over the coming weeks as we work towards building upon the synergy between SSL.com and CDNify.com.”

CDNify founder James Mulvany said: “When we started CDNify, our mission was to make it as easy as possible for start-ups and SAAS companies to scale their applications. CDNify becoming part of the SSL.com team is a natural fit.

“I am very proud of what we achieved with CDNify – it was an amazing journey and we forged some great relationships with some amazing companies.

“However, I’m not someone to sit still and I felt it was time to step away from CDNify to focus on other things.”

Mulvany said his main focus will now be on Radio.co, an audio streaming platform for radio stations which he launched in 2015, that recently won the Tech North Norther Stars competition as well as being selected to be part of Creative England’s CE50, a showcase of the most interesting creative companies in the UK.

The company was also recently included in the BusinessCloud 101 Rising Stars of UK tech scene list.

Mulvany also recently launched MCR Live (www.mcr.live), a music-focused content and podcast network for the Manchester region.

The launch comes with a diverse range of content partners including Skiddle, Sofar Sounds and First Chop brewery and will include podcasts such as ‘The Rundown’, a weekly look at the events and gigs going on in the city.

Listeners can tune in via the MCR Live app, DAB digital radio or by downloading podcasts of their favourite shows and features to enjoy later.
