Synthesia was founded in 2017 by a team of AI researchers and entrepreneurs from Stanford, Cambridge, UCL, and TUM. Their mission was focused on helping people work better – by transforming how organisations train, onboard, and upskill their employees with AI. In January 2026, Synthesia raised $200m (£146m) in a new funding round led by Google Ventures (GV), pushing its valuation to $4bn.
