Clean energy technology company UrbanChain has partnered with Believ in a deal that will see one of the UK’s fastest-growing clean energy innovators power one of the nation’s best-backed EV charge point operators with traceable, verifiable renewable energy.
Based at Manchester Science Park, UrbanChain will supply Believ’s expanding public charging network, which aims to deliver at least 30,000 charge points nationwide.
The agreement marks the Manchester firm’s first partnership with a national EV charge point operator.
“This partnership goes beyond energy supply,” said Charlie Parry, chief development officer at UrbanChain.
“It’s about building local clean energy ecosystems – linking renewable generation to charging infrastructure, supporting social housing and schools and empowering councils to deliver on their Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) and net zero goals.
“Believ represents the scale and purpose of what the UK’s net zero transition should look like – practical, fair and rooted in community benefit.
“We’re proud to be powering that mission with traceable clean energy, helping to create local markets that deliver cleaner air and more affordable power.”
Believ, which is backed by £300 million in investment from Liberty Global, Zouk Capital and infrastructure banks including Santander, ABN Amro, NatWest and MUFG, is focused on delivering on-street charging solutions in residential areas.
Its mission is to make it easier for drivers without private parking to switch to electric vehicles.
A significant share of the company’s investment is being channelled into rapid and ultra-rapid charging hubs, as well as initiatives to improve access in rural and underserved communities.
Luke Templer, CFO at Believ, added: “UrbanChain’s technology gives Believ a unique advantage – affordable, verifiable clean energy that supports our mission to deliver cleaner air for all.”
