Planet Telecom, the leading business VoIP service provider, has launched its own flagship eSIM service, allowing travellers to take advantage of low-cost data roaming around the globe.

Debuting in spring 2025, SIMOVO is an international eSIM service that allows customers to connect to networks offering up to 5G data speeds across six continents – removing the need to rely on traditional SIM cards and avoiding potentially exorbitant roaming fees.

SIMOVO’s eSIMs are designed to be exceptionally flexible, operating on a pay-as-you-go basis, allowing buyers to select their preferred destinations, periods of travel, and data packages before checking out. It’s a service that appeals to short-term holidaymakers and business travellers alike, with continental and global eSIMs available across the SIMOVO store.

The SIMOVO brand and eSIM store are part of the latest innovation launched by Planet Telecom CEO, Robin James, in response to his own difficulties in trying to connect securely and efficiently to mobile networks while abroad.

“SIMOVO started with a moment of need,” James explains. “I was travelling in the USA and just needed a simple, affordable data connection for my phone.”

“What I found was a confusing mess of options, hidden charges, and patchy support. That experience got me thinking: with millions of people travelling every year, surely there’s a better way to stay connected abroad.”

James, who has successfully spearheaded Planet Telecom for over two decades, also saw this as a fantastic opportunity to offer travellers more care and support when trying to access data overseas. He was particularly inspired when researching other travellers’ experiences with various networks.

“On sites like Trustpilot, one theme kept repeating: users were struggling with setup, and getting stuck with poor or non-existent customer service – often from AI bots or outsourced teams with no real accountability.”

“So, I created SIMOVO with a clear mission: to make travel connectivity simple, transparent, and human.”

“We’re building a premium, ethical brand that puts the customer first – whether they’re backpacking through Southeast Asia or heading to a business meeting in New York. Real people, quick answers, and total clarity on what you’re buying.”

Planet Telecom has fast become an authority in its own sector of expertise, now helping to ease concerned business owners across to VoIP as the 2027 telephony shutoff continues to loom large. James and his team are in a fantastic position to transfer their years of experience and technical aptitude over to a growing retail market, away from B2B.

“We’re already offering eSIMs that cover over 180 countries, with country-specific and multi-region bundles, and we’ve got even more in the pipeline – like loyalty rewards, live-chat support that actually helps, and in-app features to make life easier on the road.”

In that regard, security is one key aspect of the SIMOVO service that James and the team feel sets the brand apart from rivals in its industry. Frequently, people who travel abroad and end up using international SIMs are at the mercy of security settings they might not understand – or, might not want to dive into, keen to simply get out and explore.

What’s more, many travellers, faced with poor mobile connectivity while abroad, find themselves relying on public WiFi and hotspots. In many cases, public broadband is remarkably insecure – which can lead to cyberattackers intercepting the data they send and receive.

Beyond this, SIMOVO’s eSIMs remove the risks that many face with physical SIMs – such as accidental loss, damage, or even theft. And, eSIMs are provably more difficult for hackers to break into, with encrypted data profiles.

SIM-swapping fraud, port-out scams, and roaming vulnerability exploitation are also easy to avoid with SIMOVO’s eSIM solutions. Users can seamlessly and securely switch between eSIMs if they run out of data, for example, or move on to a different territory.

James and SIMOVO aim to make roaming and security simpler than ever for frustrated holidaymakers, without the need for muddling around with confusing features and settings.

What’s more, James is keen to keep SIMOVO separate from the Planet Telecom brand, purely because it caters to a different audience. “(Planet Telecom) focuses more on business telephony and hosted phone systems,” he states.

“SIMOVO is purely for travellers, with a focus on mobile-first, pay-as-you-go, and international flexibility.”

Beyond key benefits, James’s SIMOVO brand storms onto the eSIM scene at a time when concerns regarding traditional SIM card waste are higher than ever. It’s reported that discarded SIMs are contributing to more than 560,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide each year.

SIMOVO, therefore, seeks to appeal to travellers who not only want to cut back on hassle and roaming spend, but who also want to do their part for the planet.

For now, however, SIMOVO stands to become a desirable choice for digital nomads and smartphone-happy travellers who just want a more convenient, secure way to stay connected to the outside world.

In future, the service’s app is projected to include further embedded features to make travelling even easier – James suggests that VPN protection, emergency numbers, and currency conversion may be in the pipeline.

The CEO puts it succinctly: “It’s about making travel less stressful, more connected – and a little more fair.”

SIMOVO eSIMs are available to buy and install for a wide range of smartphones, tablets, and VoIP devices through the brand’s online store now.
