Chris Bird, founder & CEO, Bird Consultancy
A self-made entrepreneur straight from the streets of greater Manchester where at the age of 13 was cutting his sales teeth on the street markets across the region.
From ice cream to women’s fashion, Chris Bird was the first teenager to take Jaeger, Mondi, Frank Usher and M&S ladies wear to small market towns.
Bird was not academically gifted but he could connect with people. He had the knack of selling through conversation but his USP was and remains his passion for work and the brands he has built or represents.
In 1990, he created his own PR and promotions business. The Bird Consultancy is now 27 years old and has influenced and created many campaigns and protected reputations for brands such as JD sports, Betfred, Footasylum. Manchester City FC, Peninsula, Disney, Madison Square Gardens, The tour De France and the New York Marathon to name just a few.
It is now one of Manchester’s longest established family media businesses and operates in the sports, entertainment, leisure and business development sectors.
During the last 27 years, Bird has also found the time to develop interests outside of his PR consultancy having spent 12 years as a non-executive director of JD sports, five years as chief operating officer at Manchester City where he was instrumental in turning around the club’s media profile, supporter relations, commercial performance and the delivery of a brand new football stadium.
Bird is also CEO and shareholder of Europe’s leading multi-mass participation sport and leisure tour operator, Sports Tours International, along with his long time client friend and mentor Fred Done .
